The Organisation

We’ve been working in Vanuatu for more than 25 years supporting the community in areas of health, community education and training, community development, water supply resource development, pre-school education and direct promotion of children’s rights.


The Position

The Advocacy & Communications Manager is responsible for designing and delivering innovative advocacy and campaign strategies that inspire public support and actions, influence policy decisions and drive the agenda for children in Vanuatu. Working with the Program Development and Quality Director, they will lead on implementing the Save the Children Vanuatu Advocacy Strategy.


The function will also be responsible for maintaining a positive public image of Save the Children and support other members of the team to achieve brand consistency in line with organizational branding policy standards and donor requirements. She/He is also responsible for and managing the Country Office’s media-related activities. In addition, she/he will be responsible for building the capacity of staff of Save the children in Vanuatu in identifying and undertaking advocacy initiatives aimed at changing practices for betterment of children’s lives at community and national levels.


The Advocacy Manager will manage the Communications and Campaign Officer, who is responsible for communications outputs in projects and for organising and delivering campaign workshops and mentoring young activists and groups.


Essential Selection Criteria

► Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field such as Public Relations / Strategic Communication / Mass Media Communication / International relations / Journalism

► Strong understanding of approaches for communicating information to a wide range of audiences including media relations

► Proficiency in graphic design and photography

► Ability to multi task, work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines, responsive to external requests and strong team player.

► Experience influencing opinions and managing multiple social media and online platforms

► Ability to write, review and edit reports and products (in English) for dissemination and publications.

► Experience identifying target audiences and devising promotional and advocacy strategies to engage, inform and motivate current and potential partners

► Experience managing communications for emergency response to inform, influence and educate.

► Experience designing and implementing communication and public relation strategies for private and public sector


Desirable Selection Criteria

► Knowledge on the Vanuatu and Pacific regional media and communication landscape

► Previous experience influencing policy makers through advocacy efforts
