We’ve been working in Vanuatu for more than 25 years supporting the community in areas of health, community education and training, community development, water supply resource development, pre-school education and direct promotion of children’s rights.


The Position

The Disaster Risk and Resilience officer is a position based at the Area Councils to support Area administrators for the East Santo Area council and to ensure Communities are prepared to address Disaster Risks, Climate change issues are Addressed Accordingly. Vanuatu is one the Disaster-prone Country in the world and according to the (world Risk Report 2020), and these position exist to ensure Communities are effectively prepared to mitigate and adapt to the Different Risk that is constantly faced in the Communities, working with Vulnerable people in the Communities and empowering people with Disability organisations in Communities and support the Area Council and provincial Disaster officer to Lead effective, inclusive, and coordinated disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation and response activities at area council level.


These Role will be a four-year Role until 30 June 2025.


Essential Selection Criteria

► Bachelor’s degree in community or international development or equivalent

► 3-4 years relevant work experience

► Sound understanding of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in the Vanuatu context

► Demonstrated program management skills and Proposal writing Skills.

► Excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent public speaking


Desirable Selection Criteria

► Demonstrate skills in social work and have experience in working with Communities or related field.

► Being able to be Creative to address community issues and working closely with the Area Administrator, Provincial Disaster Officer, and the Disaster Ready Program Manager
