The Organisation
The National University of Vanuatu (NUV) was established in January 2020. Its main campus is located in Port Vila and its purpose is to provide higher education advancement and lifelong learning through academic and professional excellence by way of training, teaching and learning in both the English and French official languages, research and international cooperation. The NUV has two Faculties – the Faculty of Humanities with five schools and the Faculty of Science and Technology also with five Schools established.
The Position
As a progressive educational leader who thrives on driving excellence and learning, the Vice-Chancellor will ensure the management of affairs, finances and resources are in accordance with the regulations of the University and are used in ways that most effectively advance the approved mission and strategic plan of the University.
Essential Selection Criteria
► Demonstrated senior leadership and management experience in a complex educational organization.
► Minimum 5 years’ work experience at management level at a recognized University, higher institution, or public administration organisation.
► PhD or Masters’ Degree.
► Demonstrated achievements reflecting a commitment to excellence, innovation and continuous learning.
► Proven experience in building networks and engagement skills that foster and maintain consultative relationships and demonstrated experience in building international partnerships
► Demonstrated experience in proposal development, successful submissions, awards applications, and management of projects preferred.
► Demonstrated history of producing positive results in education administration.
► Bilingual English and French
► Sound understanding of higher education program accreditation processes, practices and quality improvement programs, preferably within other regional tertiary institutions.
► Practical knowledge of University policies and administrative processes used in institutional planning, quality oversight and academic program development including legal, fiscal and intellectual property management. ► Current knowledge of international and national accreditations standards and/or approaches, enrolment and market trends, and an awareness of leading educational strategies.
► Continuous improvement skills that build excellent team and organizational capacity with the abilities to perform well and demonstrated capabilities (self and others) with leading, implementing, and managing change.
► Ability through persuasive diplomacy, facilitation, conflict resolution and negotiation skills to balance academic, business, and human considerations, including the ability to maintain collegial relationships and work successfully and productively in a team environment. ► Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to organize, summarize, and report information in a meaningful fashion to a variety of audiences.
► Ability to rationally and objectively engage in problem-solving, handle ambiguous or unspecified information and collaborative decision-making, which may involve difficult outcomes.
► Strong computer skills, including use of reporting and analysis tools, Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of database management systems preferred; or other integrated Finance, HR and student information systems desired.
► Recognized institutional level expertise in organizational planning, program reviews and service integration, project management, executive reporting and efficient resource allocation with strategic/operational plans.
► A visible leader who is personable and positive. Proven leadership skills that inspires trust and instills confidence in others.
► Ability to mentor culturally diverse staff and further embed a work culture of service and collaboration with all campus’ departments.
► Proven versatility and ability to adapt to overcome unforeseen events and challenges. Resilience, strength of character and high levels of integrity.
