The Organisation
The National University of Vanuatu (NUV) was established in January 2020. Its main campus is located in Port Vila and its purpose is to provide higher education advancement and lifelong learning through academic and professional excellence by way of training, teaching and learning in both the English and French official languages, research and international cooperation. The NUV has two Faculties – the Faculty of Humanities with five schools and the Faculty of Science and Technology also with five Schools established.
The Position
The ICT Tutor / Lab Instructor will be responsible for teaching practical classes and preparing laboratory exercises in Information and Communication Technology for the National University of Vanuatu. The ICT Tutor / Lab Instructor will support the delivery of undergraduate ICT courses under the supervision of ICT Lecturers and in accordance with the academic priorities of the NUV School of Science.
The ICT Tutor / Lab Instructor will be responsible for:
Preparing and delivering ICT tutorials, laboratories and practical classes for undergraduate students.
Supporting teaching in ICT areas such as Systems, Networking, Software Development, Databases, Cloud Computing, DevOps and Cybersecurity.
Ensuring the quality and timely set-up of hardware, software and laboratory environments for practical classes.
Developing practical laboratory exercises and learning activities in collaboration with course lecturers.
Assessing and grading lab work and providing feedback to support student learning.
Providing practical support, guidance and mentorship to undergraduate students.
Working closely with lecturers, program heads and faculty members to support effective teaching and learning across ICT courses.
Contributing to a collaborative and interdisciplinary academic environment within the School of Science and the National University of Vanuatu.
Essential Selection Criteria
► Master’s in an IT-related domain, with demonstrated experience in delivering practical classes, tutoring, or training.
► A minimum of 1 year of practical teaching or training experience, preferably at university level (full-time or substantial part-time) in a recognized institution.
► Evidence of having both developed and delivered practical classes, workshops or trainings at university-level or similar
► Experience in IT industry projects or high-profile IT community engagement
► An understanding of ICT careers and industry skill/HR needs in the Pacific
► Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated through experience working effectively in teams and engaging with the private sector, government agencies and professional bodies.
► Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated capacity to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
► Ability to deliver course content and communicate fluently in English, French and Bislama language skills are an advantage.
► If not a ni-Vanuatu citizen, meet the immigration requirements of the Republic of Vanuatu, and be willing to live and work in Port Vila on a full-time basis.
