The Organisation

The Vanuatu Institute of Technology (VIT), the country’s biggest Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institute has the primary purpose as the center of excellence for public technical, vocational, business, hospitality, and continuing education in Vanuatu, contributing to the economic and social development of all its islands and citizens.


The Vanuatu Institute of Technology (VIT) is seeking suitably qualified and experienced trainers to commence in March 2026. Trainers will be responsible for facilitating and delivering VIT courses in line with Vanuatu Qualifications Authority (VQA) standards and the Vanuatu Institute of Technology Quality Management System (VIT QMS).

The Position

The Hospitality Trainer 2 (Food Preparation) is responsible for delivering, assessing, and evaluating the Certificate II in Hospitality (Food Preparation) in accordance with Vanuatu Qualifications Authority (VQA) standards and the Vanuatu Institute of Technology (VIT) Quality Management System (QMS).


This position ensures that learners develop practical food preparation competencies essential for working safely and effectively in kitchen environments. Students will acquire skills in preparing ingredients, basic cooking methods, safe food handling, kitchen communication, hygiene procedures, and professional culinary behaviour required in cafés, restaurants, resorts, and institutional kitchens.


The trainer plays a key role in developing a competent, professional, and confident hospitality workforce that can contribute positively to the national tourism and hospitality sectors.

Essential Selection Criteria

► Certificate III in Hospitality (Food Preparation)

► Minimum 5 years experience working in food preparation roles such as cook, commis chef, kitchen assistant, or caterer.

► Practical knowledge of kitchen operations, hygiene standards, food safety practices, and basic cooking techniques.

► Strong culinary and food preparation skills consistent with industry standards.

► Excellent communication and teaching abilities with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable Selection Criteria

► Teaching Qualification: VET Certificate IV

► Experience delivering training or mentoring staff

► Knowledge of Pacific cultural contexts relevant to food preparation and hospitality

► Ability to train diverse learners with patience, clarity, and professionalism.
