The Organisation

The Position

The MEAL Manager is responsible for establishing and managing a country office-wide MEAL system that enables Save the Children Vanuatu and partners to continuously monitor all programs, and to use data for decision making and continuous improvement. Working collaboratively with the MEAL Advisor, MEAL Coordinator, and Technical Advisors, the MEAL Manager will guide program staff in implementing MEAL systems across development and humanitarian programs in line with Save the Children’s and donor policies and practices. As a member of the Program Development and Quality (PDQ) team, the MEAL Manager will support the facilitation of periodic planning and reporting processes and will manage Save the Children Vanuatu’s accountability mechanism.


In summary, the MEAL Manager will be responsible for ensuring that Save the Children Vanuatu:

  • Has accurate and up-to-date program monitoring data that enables us to track progress against key program outcomes

  • Obtains timely and verifiable program data to inform decision making, reporting, and program evaluation

  • Receives regular, timely, and context-specific feedback from our target communities and partners and that feedback effectively informs and signals areas where strategic attention is required


Essential Selection Criteria

► University degree in international development, social sciences, education, public health, demography, statistics or related field

► Minimum of 5 years' experience in monitoring and evaluation, research or impact assessment projects, ideally within a social development context

► Previous experience in a similar role

► Good knowledge in at least one of Save the Children's thematic areas (health/nutrition, education, child protection, climate change, disaster risk reduction)

► Functional knowledge of statistics and data processing; experience collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data

► Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff

► Ability to work on own initiative to build on and develop the job, combined with the ability to work effectively as part of a team

► Highly developed writing skills; able to write technical reports, situation reports, etc.

► Excellent program management skills

► Highly organized, with good attention to detail and developed ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines and organize work

► Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications

► Drivers license required


Desirable Selection Criteria

Previous experience working with INGO or UN agency

► Specific experience of designing and managing donor projects
