The Organisation

Channel your technical expertise in inclusive education to ensure that all children with disabilities in Vanuatu have access to quality education. Save the Children is supporting the Vanuatu Ministry of Education and Training to implement a large-scale education support program, with funding from Global Partnership for Education. We need your knowledge and experience to lead the inclusive education component of this program. Be the voice for children with disabilities in Vanuatu.


The Position

In this full-time, 2-year maximum-term position, based in Port Vila, Vanuatu you will provide technical oversight for all-inclusive education activities within our Global Partnership for Education-funded program. You will be seconded into the Vanuatu Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) Inclusive Education Unit and will jointly report to the MoET Director of Education Services and the Save the Children Vanuatu Director of Program Development and Quality.


You will make an impact by:

  • Leading the establishment of Vanuatu’s first national Inclusive Education Resource Centre

  • Developing screening, referral, outreach, training, and support protocols and systems needed to implement Vanuatu’s inclusive education support system

  • Supporting the revision of MoET’s Inclusive Education Policy

  • Updating inclusive education teacher training courses and ensuring teacher education aligns with Inclusive Education Policy and screening tools

  • Training, mentoring, and coaching national and provincial-level MoET staff


Essential Selection Criteria

► A tertiary degree in Inclusive Education or equivalent

► Capacity development in evidenced-based Inclusive Education approaches

► Working in teams mentoring colleagues from different social and cultural backgrounds

► Developing user friendly culturally appropriate documents and resources for key stakeholders

► Work experience in Vanuatu or another Pacific context is highly desirable

► Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills to relate, communicate and negotiate effectively with a diverse range of people and cultures, representing client organization, governments, agencies, etc

► Undertake activities in a participative and consultative manner ensuring counterparts and stake holders actively participate and develop understanding and ownership

► Maintain a high-level personal organization and effectively plan and monitor activities

► Ability to plan and conduct adult learning learning/mentoring programs for the transfer of knowledge and skills

► Ability to approach problem solving in a culturally sensitive manner to ensure ownership and acceptance

► Ability to effectively self-management priorities, datelines, and budgets with minimal supervision

► Maintain high ethical standards in any capacity in accordance with relevant codes of practice

► Willingness to undertake travel within Vanuatu as required

► International practices that support community and school level improvement for children with disability
