The Organisation

Air Vanuatu is Vanuatu's national airline and reaches international destinations across Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Fiji. It operates 27 domestic routes, has a fleet of 6 aircraft and engages over 440 staff and employees.

 

The Position

Applications are invited for the position of General Manager Human Resources (GMHR) with Air Vanuatu (Operations) Limited. This position is based in Port Vila, Vanuatu and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The GMHR is a strategic advisor to the board of directors and the executive management team and provides leadership to the airline’s human resources team. This is a senior management position on the Air Vanuatu team.

 

Essential Selection Criteria

► Hold a degree in Human Resources Management and ten years experience in progressively responsible positions within a major business organization, or a comparable combination of relevant education and experience

► Relevant experience supervising and managing staff; engaging with external stakeholders; and working with an executive management team

► Relevant experience in change management in a major organization, including a demonstrated ability to increase productivity and continuously improve methods, approaches and departmental contributions

► High level of expertise in employment law and employment relations particularly in the Vanuatu business environment

► Current driver’s license, Vanuatu citizenship and passport essential

 

Desirable Selection Criteria

► Thorough understanding and experience in staff training, succession planning and salary / payroll management

► Strong and effective communicator using written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills

► Ability to increase productivity and continuously improve methods, approaches and departmental contribution whilst remaining cost-sensitive

► High level computer skills including Human Resources database programs, Microsoft office suite and file management systems. Experience with payroll systems will be an asset
